Quality Check

Quality Check

The final stage of a ModTime build is not the moment the watch goes into a box. It is the moment the watch is treated as a complete object: the model you chose, the options you selected, the components that were assembled by hand and the way all of it feels together on the wrist.

A custom watch should not rely on a product photo alone. Before dispatch, the build needs to look coherent, operate correctly and feel ready to wear. That is the role of the ModTime quality check.

Inspection is part of the build

Quality control does not sit outside the process. It is built into the way the watch moves from specification to assembly to final review. After the order is reviewed and the components are prepared, the assembled watch is checked as a finished piece, not as a loose collection of parts.

If you want to see the broader order-to-dispatch path, start with How We Build. This page focuses on the inspection stage: the point where detail, function and presentation are brought together before the watch leaves us.

Visual alignment

The first layer is visual. The dial should sit cleanly in the case. The hands should read naturally over the markers. The crystal should be clean. The bezel, case, bracelet or strap should feel like they belong to the same build.

On date, GMT, open-heart or chronograph builds, the visual review also looks at the details that make those configurations feel intentional: date-window presentation where applicable, hand position, dial balance, subdial or GMT clarity and the overall symmetry of the watch face.

The goal is not to make one detail loud. The goal is a watch that feels resolved from the first glance.

Function and feel

The second layer is functional. Time-setting feel, crown operation, hand movement, bracelet or strap fit and model-specific functions are reviewed before dispatch. A GMT build should feel different from a simple three-hand automatic. A chronograph-style build should communicate its function clearly. An automatic build should feel like a mechanical watch, not just a design shell.

For movement-specific behavior, the deeper explanation belongs on Movements. The quality check makes sure the chosen movement and the finished build are presented in a way the customer can understand and wear with confidence.

Bracelet, strap and wrist presence

A premium custom watch is not judged only by the dial. The bracelet, clasp, strap, end-link feel and overall fit can change the entire ownership experience. During final review, the watch is handled as a complete piece: how it sits, how it closes, how the surfaces catch light and whether the chosen configuration feels consistent with the model.

Water-resistance path where applicable

When a build includes a water-resistance configuration or upgrade, that part of the review belongs to the pre-dispatch path. Water resistance should be discussed honestly: it is a rating and care-sensitive feature, not a vague promise that a watch can ignore real-world conditions.

The dedicated Water Resistance page explains 3 ATM, 5 ATM, proper use and why water resistance depends on configuration, condition and care.

Final presentation

The last review is about the watch as a whole. Cleanliness, option consistency, dial identity, bracelet or strap presentation and ready-to-wear feel are checked together. A ModTime watch should arrive feeling deliberate, not rushed.

That is the standard behind this page: no borrowed authority, no vague luxury theater and no claim that a mechanical object will never need care. Just a clear internal review before the watch is prepared for dispatch.
